Clinical Pharmacy

Mike Popkov, PharmD, RPh, is a clinical pharmacist at think with roots right here in Omaha. With most of his family in the healthcare field, Mike also took an interest in the healthcare industry in high school. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology from the University of Nebraska-Omaha, and a Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2023.

“There are many unanswered questions when it comes to certain disease states,” Mike states, “and knowing that there is so much to learn makes everything much more meaningful.” One experience that really stuck with him was a patient case involving a severe muscle weakness during his pharmacy school rotation. He recalls, “After the patient had been worked up and more alert, it was found that she had an RYR1 mutation which causes some of the most unique side effects that I have seen. It furthermore sparked my interest in pharmacogenomics.”

When it comes to patient care, Mike takes a holistic approach, considering all aspects of patient care, not only in his specific area or expertise. He joined the team because he wanted to apply his knowledge to improve people’s everyday lives. Mike wants to be a pharmacist that does more than the basics. He states, “I get to utilize all my knowledge in pharmacy and apply that to patient’s everyday life. Being a clinical pharmacist is more than knowing the basics; it has required me to get out of my comfort zone and help patients the best I can.”

Outside of work, Mike enjoys spending time with family and friends, and he’s a big fan of Ohio State athletics. He also dreams of visiting Lake Como, Italy.
