Maureen W. Gatere, DNP, MPH, APRN, PMHNP-BC Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Maureen Gatere was born and raised in Kenya, Africa, moving to the U.S. in 2001. She earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and Master of Public Health (MPH) degrees from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, her BSN from Nebraska Methodist College and her Biology degree from Northwest Missouri State.
She joined Think Whole Person Healthcare because she understands the value of an integrated and collaborative care approach for mental health patients. “This model has strong evidence for the best patient outcomes. I have always been fascinated by the human body, and particularly how the mind works. I believe that mental well-being should be preserved and promoted for all human beings to achieve their highest potential.”
In her free time, Maureen serves in the United States Air Force as a Health Services Manager and she “likes to put her Kenyan running genes to good use.” Her bucket list includes frequent and diverse travel. She is inspired by Mark Twain’s quote: “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.”
